When we asked 200+ buyers about their biggest fears, one thing was clear: Cash is king, and the crown feels heavy. From covering expenses to dodging personal guarantees, here’s what’s top of mind in 2025.

2. The Why Behind the Buy

This isn’t spray-and-pray. Buyers are choosing industries where they have experience they can leverage, cash flow they can improve upon, and operations they can actually run. It’s about what they can confidently own.

The data’s clear: This isn’t a side hustle. It’s a long-term play, or even a permanent one. Only 1 in 5 plans to sell in under 5 years. Nearly the same number say they’re never selling at all.

4. What About Cash on Hand?

While 55% of aspiring business buyers we surveyed have more than $100K in cash reserves, many have less. Regardless of starting points, acquisitions are about resourcefulness, and smart buyers across the spectrum will work to structure deals that fit their strategy.
